An article on the impact of AI on the entertainment industry for the startup launcher’s LinkedIn profile. The focus was on why it’s important to understand this in everyday life — exploring both the benefits (such as personalized user experience) and potential risks (like information bubbles and reinforced dependencies) through real and recognizable examples. The article was published as a series of LinkedIn posts.

Computer technologies influence not only how we work but also how we have fun and express ourselves. We've conceived a series of articles on how artificial intelligence and machine learning are changing our leisure, creativity, and art. Let's begin with the realm of entertainment.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the entertainment and media industries by introducing technologies like natural language processing, machine learning, and computer vision. These tools enhance user experience, personalize content, and streamline production across digital platforms.

Personalise search and content recommendations

AI analyses user behavior to predict preferences and offer tailored recommendations. Platforms like Netflix, Spotify, and Disney+ use algorithms to study viewing patterns and reviews, while NLP helps interpret user sentiment. This personalization boosts engagement and overall content consumption.

Personalisation of user experience

In gaming, AI adapts missions, challenges, and difficulty levels based on each player’s actions. Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment (DDA) balances challenge and accessibility, making gameplay smoother and more engaging for all users.

Content creation and marketing strategy

AI automates production tasks and supports smarter marketing. Studios such as Warner Bros. and Sony use tools like Cinelytic and ScriptBook to forecast box-office results and predict audience reactions, helping creative teams make data-informed decisions.

How it works in practice: examples

AI-made South Park by Fable Simulation

GenAI-made content, personalization of user experience, interactivity

The format of interactive shows and series, where the viewer can make choices during the viewing that influence the storyline, has been around for a while. Netflix, especially, became famous for this with the episode "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch," numerous animated projects, and shows featuring popular adventurer and TV host Bear Grylls. But now we can talk about generative television.

A San Francisco startup Fable Studio demonstrated this by creating, as an experiment, a series of South Park with an innovative AI tool named SHOW-1. This tool can write, produce, direct animate, and even voice entirely new episodes of TV shows.

Their tech critically combines several AI models: including LLMs for writing, custom diffusion models for image creation, and multi-agent simulation for story progression and characterization. This tool enables users to input a one- or two-sentence prompt, generating an entire episode. Notably, it can even create a character based on the user's appearance and voice, exemplified by their experimental series of South Park.
